The pace is good, the story never feels like it's about to grind to a halt, Laymon obviously knew who was going to do what & when & the time scale feels right for the events that are unfolding. Some of the description is a bit vague in places, with the real detail saved for the descriptions of the various violent acts committed throughout the story, keeping the reader well aware of the peril around the characters. The reader is treated to a wide variety of characters as well, including a few fulfilling the Antagonist role along with the rain itself. Laymon spins out four different plot lines, with characters that are interesting & well rounded. The plot of One Rainy Night is about as simple as it gets a black teenager is murdered, the next night a black rain starts falling that drives anyone it touches to commit acts of murderous violence.
